Peptide Purity vs Peptide Content: Read Both

HPLC purity, net peptide content and total powder weight answer different questions. A sourcing specification should state the measurement method and calculation basis for each.

Quick answer: HPLC purity, net peptide content and total powder weight answer different questions. A sourcing specification should state the measurement method and calculation basis for each.

What a chromatographic percentage represents

HPLC purity commonly reports the relative area of a target peak under defined analytical conditions. Its meaning depends on the method and the substances detected. It does not automatically describe the fraction of the entire vial that consists of the desired peptide.

Why gross powder weight differs

Water, counterions, excipients and other material can contribute to the weight placed in a vial. Net peptide content and chromatographic purity may need separate consideration when interpreting an analytical report. Ask the supplier to explain the applicable calculation rather than multiplying percentages whose definitions are unknown.

A practical quotation comparison

Suppose two suppliers both quote a 10 mg vial with a high purity value. One may be describing a neat ingredient while another offers a formulated powder. Before comparing price, ask for the composition, the total fill tolerance and the specified peptide amount. The same headline number can conceal different purchasing units.

Put the distinction into the purchase order

Use separate fields for material identity, gross fill, assay or content, chromatographic purity and analytical methods. Identify which documents report each parameter. If the finished formula is calculated from an active-content basis, have the formulation team review the batch data before assigning an addition level.
